Custer/Mt. Rushmore KOA is a great place to hold your small group rally or family reunion!  We have seven one-room kabins, nine two-room kabins, and a wide variety of R.V. and tent sites.  We offer group rates for five or more kabins, tent or R.V. sites.

The "Chuckwagon" is a covered, outdoor pavilion with a kitchen area, which is available each afternoon or evening for your group get-together.  It has seating for 30-40 people.  There are also several picnic tables inside the office/store area which can
be used during office hours.

A full breakfast is offered between 7:30 and 9:30 a.m. each day from Memorial Day to Labor Day.  Start your day with a great, home-cooked breakfast, with many items to choose from.  Large portions and reasonably priced!

Custer South Dakota Vacation Guide

Hi All,

I was checking the weather in our favoriate spring and summer city, yes  Custer SD and was happy to find this vacation guide at the Custer Chamber site.

 http://www.custersd.com/2009%20SHVG%20for%20chambers.pdf

It's a big file so give is sometime to download. However it has most everything you can do in the Black Hills. 80 pages worth. For those of you coming to the Black Hills this year to Camp, RV or enjoy our cabins I would suggest you download this do for your reference. Might not want to print all 80 pages out. Got to save some of those Black Hills ponderosas. If you don't want to download and view it now you can find it later and view it from our campground. Love that WiFi.

It's warming up. See you this spring or summer.

 Walt

MEET THE MANAGERS

Hi there and welcome, future guests!

We are Denny and Judy Johnson, Managers of Custer/Mt. Rushmore KOA.  This is our third season managing the kampground for owners Walt & Trina.  We look forward to welcoming our many guests this year, and are happy to assist you with planning your vacation time in the Black Hills.  We can tell you all the details of the many attractions in the area, including our favorite things to see and our favorite restaurants, book area tours that pick you up right at your site, and even arrange for rental cars.  Judy has a printed one-day itinerary that will take you through Custer State Park on Needles Highway, the Wildlife Loop and Iron Mountain Road to Mt. Rushmore and on to Crazy Horse, making a full-day loop, and we do mean full!

One word of advice we would like to give our guests is that they plan to allow at least two or more full days in the Black Hills to see the major attractions.  One to two weeks is even better!   Our winding mountain roads make travel in the Black Hills slower than you might have planned for.  You may get stopped by a herd of buffalo crossing the road or some of the "Begging Burros" in Custer State Park waiting for hand-outs and ready to pose for pictures, but getting to your ultimate destination can be half the fun!  There are so many things to do, like hiking the many trails in Custer State Park, visiting Mt. Rushmore and Crazy Horse Memorial, biking the Michelson Trail, horseback riding, fishing, hunting, exploring Jewel Cave National Park, Wind Cave National Park, and the other commercial caves, helicopter and balloon flights, a train ride, historical sites and towns such as Deadwood, and many other fun attractions.  We are in the center of the southern Black Hills, within an hours' drive of every major attraction.  Badlands National Park and Devil's Tower National Monument are only 100 miles away, and make excellent day trips from our KOA.  We are on U.S. Highway 16, the most direct and scenic route to Yellowstone National Park, only a day's drive away!

We welcome you to Custer/Mt. Rushmore KOA.  We and our staff are waiting for your arrival, and happy to help you in any way we can to have a great time at our kampground and in the Black Hills!

THINGS TO DO AT CUSTER/MT. RUSHMORE KOA

Although there are literally dozens of places to visit and things to do in the Black Hills, we have lots of things to do right at our KOA, also.

BREAKFAST:
We serve a full breakfast from 7:30 to 9:30 a.m. each morning between Memorial Day and Labor Day..  It is good home cooked food, and plenty of it, for a very reasonable price. It's a great way to start your day of touring the Black Hills!

FOR THE KIDS (ADULTS, TOO!):
We have a swimming pool, playground, game room and a jumping pillow, which is a  large in-the-ground trampoline.  Kids are attracted to it from the moment they see it.  You can see a picture of it in our photo gallery, http://www.koa.com/where/sd/41107/photogallery/2.htm.  Parents and grandparents, if you're wondering how you're gonna get the little ones worn out and tucked in for a good night's sleep, the jumping pillow is your answer!  There is a nominal fee involved.

MORE ACTIVITIES:
Outside:  We have horseshoe pits, Hillbilly Golf and Cornhole.  (For those of you not from Ohio or Michigan, Cornhole is a slanted board with holes in it that you toss beanbags full of corn through).  Lots of fun, and very competitive.

Inside:  We will be scheduling crafts, ice cream socials, root beer floats, line dancing and card games on a regular basis throughout the summer.  Pick up a weekly schedule at check-in.
