Mount Rushmore Summer

The camping season is fast approaching.  Temps are warming up, snow has melted and folks are roaming around the Black Hills.  We at Custer Mount Rushmore KOA are looking forward to this upcoming season and would like to recommend a few sites in the Black Hills.

Of course Mount Rushmore is a need to see. I have often sat there at the base of the mountain are marveled about how the workmen and Gutzon Borglum created this incredible memorial.

Learn about the carving at this national park service site: http://www.nps.gov/archive/moru/park_history/carving_hist/carving_history.htm

Of course crazy horse mountain is another site to see. I personally think it is one of the top stops in the Black Hills. The laser light show that runs during the summer is a must see. A blend of Lakota and American history.  They sure do love both at crazy horse.  Go here to find out more: http://www.crazyhorsememorial.org/

I see that Crazy Horse is sponsoring a marathon, shall I run it….recently marathons have become an activity of mine.

Bless you all and have safe travels.

Walt Hodgson, I wanna be camping.

Camping with comfort

USA today has an article about how camping is booming again. http://www.usatoday.com/travel/destinations/2009-07-09-camping-revival_N.htm.

Not trying to be biased...I must agree. There is something really great about being outdoors, having a campfire, spending time with family.  Traveling with my family in the RV is a great time. We see the country, spend time together, and have satellite TV. What else could one want? For those of you coming to the Black Hills with your tents you will be in for a pleasant surprise. We have built some very nice deluxe tent sites with lots of elbow room. Now a days it seems folks are showing up with 3 room tents and we have some great sites for them.

My wife and I did tent camping for many years. Started with the one person tent. That got a little tight so we upgraded to a 3 person tent. That was the idea tent for many years. When the munchkins arrived we graduated to the 3 room monster tent. We loved that tent. It would comfortably hold 2 adults, 2 kids, 2 dogs, tons of gear and cellos. We never leave home without cellos.

Safe Travels.
