Mount Rushmore Summer

The camping season is fast approaching.  Temps are warming up, snow has melted and folks are roaming around the Black Hills.  We at Custer Mount Rushmore KOA are looking forward to this upcoming season and would like to recommend a few sites in the Black Hills.

Of course Mount Rushmore is a need to see. I have often sat there at the base of the mountain are marveled about how the workmen and Gutzon Borglum created this incredible memorial.

Learn about the carving at this national park service site: http://www.nps.gov/archive/moru/park_history/carving_hist/carving_history.htm

Of course crazy horse mountain is another site to see. I personally think it is one of the top stops in the Black Hills. The laser light show that runs during the summer is a must see. A blend of Lakota and American history.  They sure do love both at crazy horse.  Go here to find out more: http://www.crazyhorsememorial.org/

I see that Crazy Horse is sponsoring a marathon, shall I run it….recently marathons have become an activity of mine.

Bless you all and have safe travels.

Walt Hodgson, I wanna be camping.

Mount Rushmore Weather

Weather

We here at Custer Mount Rushmore Campground (KOA) have taken a look at several sites for weather and weather underground located at is http://www.wunderground.com/cgi-bin/findweather/getForecast?query=57730&wuSelect=WEATHER appears to be one of the best. This spring is looking to be very nice and summer will be very comfortable. Not too hot...not too cold. Of course mother nature has the final vote.

Lakes

Camping in the Black Hills is always fun and by using the above site you will be better able to prepare.  My favorite link on this site is Snow depth. Don't worry...the snow is behind us for this year. It is good to know that in recent years the amount of rain and snowfall has been healthy and we are far from our recent drought. The black hills has several lakes that you can enjoy. Swimming, fishing, and canoeing are common Black Hill activities.
